PlayStation Phone With Android 3.0: Sony Ericsson hybrid

There’s a very hot rumor around today and it concerns a PlayStation Phone that will be powered by Android 3.0. It seems this big news refers to a gaming phone that will be produced by Sony Ericsson which is apparently working on a hybrid mobile phone and gaming device.

An article by Ben Parr over on Mashable, sourced from Engadget, says that the PlayStation and Xperia branded phone will be a “cross between the Samsung Captivate and the PSP Go.” Rumors are that the device will include a 3.7-inch to 4.1-inch screen, a 5-megapixel camera and 1GHz Snapdragon processor.

Other likely features include a landscape slider with controls similar to that of the PSP and a touchpad instead of a joystick. There have been rumors of this since March but before it was not known which operating system the phone would run on. However Engadget’s usually reliable sources inform it will have the next Android OS 3.0, dubbed Gingerbread.

If that’s accurate it seems that PSP and PSX games could be played on the phone via Android apps. For more on this go to mashable.com. It does seem credible that Sony and Google would want to take on Apple with a new device like this but what do you think is the device’s chance of success?
