6 Tips for Gowalla’s new Check-In API

Gowalla yesterday officially unveiled their new Check-In API, and also gave six tips or “commandments” for developers to follow. According to Techcrunch, this announcement is quite a breakthrough as it enables third-party apps write to Gowalla’s API for the first time.

Gowalla’s tips are pretty much self explanatory and the first is to Check in where the user actually is. The second tip is not to encourage checking in where the user isn’t and third is Never check in without permission from the user. Tip number four is to encourage social behavior and discourage bot-like behavior, which makes sense. The fifth tip or commandment is that Rapid and repeated checkins are not tolerated. And finally the last and most obvious tip is to use the API responsibly.
