Fame via Twitter thanks to Kanye West and Conan O’Brien

Twitter, one of the biggest online social networking sites of today is in the news with celebrities following the likes of “you and me”. The latest celebrity to hit the headlines is U.S. rapper “Kanye West“, 33, who has been following a Coventry man “Stephen Holmes” on Twitter. Since this surreal news, Holmes has seen user numbers on his account rise from 60 to 1,500. Holmes on the other hand has not taken the fame quite so well tweeting that “He won’t be speaking to anybody else, surprisingly not everyone wants to be famous. That’s all I’m saying – peace out x”.

According to News Coventry & Warwickshire, within a week, West’s user numbers on Twitter rose to a staggering 380,000. This is not the first time we have heard of a person being followed by a celebrity on Twitter. Vulture reported on this back in March, when U.S. chat show host Conan O’Brien followed 19 year-old student from Michigan “Sarah Killen“.

O’Brien tweeted “I’ve decided to follow someone at random. She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change”. Killen’s followers rose from 3 to 13,279. Killen a fan of O’Brien’s has spoken about how her life has changed. She is now offered freebies including a computer from Hornblasters, various items for her forthcoming wedding and to add to this she has raised over $2,000 a day in aid of her chosen charity the “Cure”.

Would you like to be the only person followed by a celebrity, and if so, who would that celeb be? Give us your comments. To read more about this check out News Coventry & Warwickshire and Vulture
