BlackBerry Torch 9800: Bright light or just a flicker?

Yesterday RIM unveiled the BlackBerry Torch 9800, which comes with a touchscreen and slide-out QWERTY keyboard, so offers the best of both worlds – something that Research In Motion has never done before. The question is, is this latest handset a bright light or just a flicker?

The Torch needs to be something special if they are to fight of the ever-persistent Apple iPhone and Android handsets. RIM has included their new BlackBerry OS 6, so should offer an increase in performance and usability.

It is no secret that a great smartphone in this age requires apps, and the BlackBerry Torch will include some pre-installed apps for your pleasure. These include a few news applications, weather, sports, radio and many more.

Christina Warren from Mashable came up with what I thought was the best analogy of the Blackberry Torch, saying that it seems funny why RIM has called the their new handset the Torch, as in the past their products “has really been lacking over the last few years is heat.”

RIM has been down for a while but is not out, we have to think of them as Hulk Hogan, if you shout enough they will get up and come out fighting, and the Torch is the first signs that there is still some fight left – watch out Apple and Android, BlackBerry is coming.
