How to Use Social Media to Catch Criminals

We now all live in a world, where social media and social networking is becoming more and more popular. Social media is used in many ways now including in people’s businesses, in politics, and now it could well be used to catch criminals.

When speaking to a homeowners group on Tuesday, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said that it’s time to use social media to enlist the city’s 1.3 million residents, to help his officers catch the few thousand “unrepentant criminals,” according to Richard Abshire at dallasnews.com.

Brown also explained to the Buckner Terrace Homeowners, about the benefits of iWatchDallas – a proposed online crime reporting system that he is planning to push for. He then described the Buckner Terrace Homeowners as a model neighborhood crime watch organization.

However, he did go on to say that most people wouldn’t come to a traditional crime watch meeting. “Not the 20-somethings and 30-somethings,” he said. He went on to explain that young adults appear more comfortable with social media, and that’s why he wants to use it.
