Facebook’s Blasphemous Content: Ministry to decide outcome

Facebook has come under fire yet again, this time from an inter-ministerial committee in Pakistan, as there are still a number of ‘blasphemous content’ pages live on the website. The committee has been looking at a number of different options open to them to try and block the content.

Muhammad Yasir from the Daily Times reports that it was the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority who discovered the pages containing the sacrilegious material, the PTA were the ones who contacted the ministry.

According to Nagibullah Malik from the Ministry, he said that they have approached Facebook and asked them to take action to delete the pages. We are not certain how relations are between Pakistan and Facebook, but things have to be handled very delicately, as religion is involved.

This is not the first time that the two have come head-to-head, back in May Facebook was blocked in Pakistan. The current page with the ‘blasphemous content’ now has 1,726 fans, and that number keeps climbing each day that the page is live.

Do you think the Facebook page should be deleted?
