Android Google Maps Update: Expanding Places database

Good news today for those of you who love your Android Google Maps, as there has been an update for mobile users. Google has made improvements to Places, paired with Google Maps 4.4 for Android 1.6., and expanded its Places database.

If you own an Android you will now be able to put the Places icon on your home screen which will make it easier to access local places and information about business listings. You’ll be able to have custom-saved categories and also now your mobile encounter will enable you to look for local venues by voice or text, or search default categories, restaurants, bars, hotels and the like, according to Jennifer Van Grove over on Mashable, sourced from Google Mobile Blog.

If you look at a Place Page the results information has been expanded and now includes opening times, distance, prices, menu links and even available car parking. At one time Yelp may have been the place to go for local business information but Google Places continues to develop and with the Google name may soon be the main source that comes to mind for most people.
