Facebook: 10 facts you might not know

With Facebook’s unbelievable rise to popularity, its staggeringly large user-base of over 500 million and the world’s youngest self-made billionaire CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, it has got to be one of the most fascinating companies around today.

In fact, it’s so fascinating that they’ve even made a movie about it. However, as reported by Amy-Mae Elliott at mashable.com, we may well know the basics about Facebook such as the service’s Harvard dorm-room origins, but there may be things we don’t know.

For example, did any of you know that Al Pacino’s face was on the original Facebook homepage? I know that I didn’t!! Before the major homepage redesign in 2007, the Facebook front page used to feature a partly obscured man’s face.

No-one really knew who this mystery “Facebook Guy” was…until recently anyway. David Kirkpatrick revealed in his book, “The Facebook Effect,” that the image was a manipulated photo of the actor Al Pacino created by a friend of Mark Zuckerberg.

Another fact that’s listed in the article is that the average Facebook user has around 130 friends. Finally, did you know that a Facebook employee’s hoodie once sold for over $4,000 on eBay? Nearly 50 bidders were battling it out for the item.
