Facebook says no to England football team

It seems that there’s been much speculation recently about Facebook being the new sponsors of the England football team but it’s just not true. The rumors started when the Telegraph ran a story that Facebook was in the running, earlier this week.

An article by Marc Chacksfield on Techradar, says the news came after Nationwide said it was ending their sponsorship of the team after 11 years and that the social networking site, Facebook, was a leading name to be the new sponsors.

Other sites said to be in the race to become the new England sponsors include O2, Orange and BlackBerry. However Techradar says that it asked Facebook about any sponsorship deal and was told, “Facebook is not in talks with the England Football team regarding any sponsorship.” It couldn’t be any clearer could it.

It seems that the England manager, Fabio Capello, disapproved of his players using social networking during the World Cup so Facebook is probably well out of the deal, and besides, we do wonder at the moment who will want to be associated with the team.
