PS3 Firmware Update 3.40: New features Include

It seems there’s good news for Sony PlayStation 3 owners as it appears that from next week there’ll be a new Firmware Update available for you to download. If you’re one of the many that think you’ll subscribe to the new PlayStation Plus you’ll need to use the new Firmware Update v.3.40.

This comes to us via Alan Ng over on Product Reviews, sourced from TheGamerAccess. A press release from Sony says that it will be launched on June 22, only a week away. Meanwhile some Sony websites seem to have let something slip as it appears that the company will also be enabling cross-gaming chat for PlayStation Plus. However the information was taken down again shortly afterwards.

Product-Reviews show a screenshot of the cross-gaming chat blurb which looks pretty authentic and the article makes a really good point saying how strange it is that this was not announced in the Sony keynote.

    Nope. I don't plan on paying for extra content. I only play certain games anyways so this is not a big deal for me.

    I don't see the big deal is cross game chatting. If you are not playing with me on the game I am playing then you will only be a distraction (like my kids asking me dumb questions when I am playing).

    I will try the service free for 3 months. I will make sure to cancel before the three months are up.
