Foursquare Badges and Mayorship: Is this cheating?

Mmm, we’re not sure about this one so we’d like your opinions please. If you’ve heard of Foursquare you’ll be aware that it’s a location-based social network with location definitely being the keyword. It can let your friends know where you are and what you’re up to and vice versa.

One of the most fun aspects is the ability to collect points for places you visit, earn badges and even become the mayor of a location if you visit it often enough. Up until now the thrill of the chase of becoming a mayor has been not knowing exactly how many times you may have to checkin somewhere to become its mayor. However an article over on Mashable by Jolie O’Dell tells us that could all be about to change.

Apparently there is now an app to help Foursquare users called WhenWillIBeMayor.com. The app can search your history on Foursquare to tell you exactly how many more checkins you need to become the new mayor and it will also keep you updated on how you’re doing. I don’t know about you but this somehow takes away the fun of Foursquare, or maybe some of you are racing to download the app as we speak?

For more on this go to mashable.com. We’d like to know what you think about this. Do you think its all part of the fun, or maybe you think it’s nothing more than cheating? Why not let us know your thoughts.

I signed up for foursquare long time ago but never actively used it after facebook places had launched. These numbers are really big for 4sq but anyone know the numbers for facebook places? The advantage I see with facebook places is lot of apps are already built on top of it. ( see http://workplacetalk.com which you can use to talk about facebook places you checkin to and also share office gossip anonymously). Time only will tell who wins.
