Harness Power of Twitter for a Job

Now we all know that Twitter can be used for a myriad of purposes but one thing that may not have occurred to you is to job hunt with Twitter. However there are more and more instances recently of people who have harnessed the power of Twitter to gain employment so it could be the right route for you.

An informative article by Wallace Immen on The Globe and Mail, looks into just this with a story called ‘Tweet Your Way to a Job’. Starting with an example of exactly how somebody got a job through Twitter it tells of a man not even searching for a new job at the time, who was tweeted about a new post in Ottawa for a Social Media Manager.

Within moments he decided to apply and was invited for interview and when asked how he would compile a social media campaign for the employer he actually gave them details to link to his Twitter stream showing the amount of followers he had amassed in 2 years and his tweets giving the employer some idea of what he was all about. Needless to say he got the job.

The article goes on to look at ways to use Twitter for job hunting with sections called Cultivating a Following, Be Prolific Within Limits, Let Them Know You’re Hunting, Give to Get, Stay Professional But Real, Expand Your Search, Use Search Resources, and Don’t Rely on Twitter Alone. Many of you would find this an invaluable resource I’m sure.
