Google Earth Maps: More 3D updates with 1200 hours of work

For those that love to track changes in Google Earth and Maps, you may be interested in a recent update that included lots of new 3D scenery. This update includes various cities, Luna Park ferris wheel, and Machu Picchu in 3D.

Gearthblog.com reports that ‘pmolsen’ – a SketchUp user – has informed them about some recent updates, which include a 3D replica of Peru’s Machu Picchu. The results are impressive, and come after 1,200 hours of work using a laser scan of the site.

Below this post you can see a video, which shows you the 3D model and you can use this Google Earth KML file to visit the site yourself. You will need GE installed and also check your settings, turn on the “3D Buildings” layer.

The second video below shows you Luna Park in Sydney, and a ferris wheel animation from the site. Also, Google Earth has been updated with three more 3D cities, these are in South Africa and include: Phokeng, Polokwane, and Nelspruit.
