Microsoft Project Pink: Social Media Networking Phones Event

We have known for some time that Microsoft aim to launch a bunch of new social media networking handsets dubbed ‘Project Pink’. We have just learned that the software giant is to hold a special event on April 12 – we have to wonder how many of us are really bothered about the new phones?

Mashable learned from WSJ that Project Pink will offer phones that integrate a number of social networking features – so will be aimed at a younger target audience. These new phones will see Microsoft working more closely on the hardware side of things, as well as software and strategy.

Not much is known about the handsets, but we do know that there is to be a number of online services. We also know that Sharp will be manufacturing the devices, but with a huge amount of input from Microsoft.

WSJ sources suggest that we could see a number of Project Pink phones as early as late April – these will be on the Verizon network. The U.S. carrier will have to offer great rates for mobile data, as this will be one of the most used features on the new handsets.

Keep an eye on April 12, after the event we will be able to tell you a lot more.
