Android market penetration more compelling than iPhone

When it comes to smartphones, the iPhone is still king. But how long will Apple be able to hang on to that title with just one handset? If you consider that Google Android has greater market penetration, then we would say not that long.

About a quarter of all smartphones sold is an iPhone, but with all the attention paid to Android at CTIA over these past couple of days – then we would imagine that Apple must be watching their backs right now.

ZDNet wants us to consider that there are at least 115 handsets using Android OS around the world, this number is set to get bigger with the recent launch of the HTC EVO 4G and others.

The Apple iPhone has to be one of if not the best handsets on the market, but its lack of carrier choice is starting to catch up with it. Do not get me wrong, Apple is good at what they do and maybe they are happy with just one handset. Just look at their Mac OS X, they are happy to just supply it for their own computers, and we all know how well their profits are at the moment.

Maybe we should not formulate an opinion until Apple launches the rumored iPhone 4G, then we can see if it still has selling power.
