Starbucks and Foursquare Partnership: Customer Rewards

It looks like the location-based social networking website Foursquare, is definitely meaning business. It appears that the 1-year old start-up now has a huge brand under its belt, in the form of international coffeehouse chain Starbucks.

Starbucks will be using the platform, to test out its experimental rewards program. Starting from today, frequent Starbucks customers who check in at retail locations using Foursquare will be earning themselves customer rewards.

Unfortunately there is no free coffee or financial incentives for customers to begin with, but after five check-ins; Starbucks visitors can unlock the “Barista badge.” And according to a report at mashable.com, that is just the beginning of it all.

The coffee behemoth is also planning to use Foursquare as its testing ground for alternative reward strategies. Starbucks are hoping to use Foursquare, to provide its customers with more meaningful prizes such as invitations to its special events.

Now that Starbucks has become the second business – Tasti D-Lite being the first to join forces – to use Foursquare as a loyalty program platform for its customers, it will sure pave the way for many other businesses to follow suit.
